Christmas at the mission

More than 1,000 people stopped by to feast at the Good News Rescue Mission’s 17th annual Christmas Banquet in south Redding back in December 2013.

Organizers braced for a record turnout, preparing 1,200 plates of turkey or ham, yams, mashed potatoes, pies and other fixings that were served to hungry guests every hour on the hour from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.

“There is just an incredible amount of community support that makes all of this possible,” said Cesar Partida, the mission’s executive director. “It always seems to come in abundance.”

While the food may have been free, the story about the annual Christmas gathering is accessible to Record Searchlight subscribers only. Fortunately, PDFs are a thing.
